WCWS: Stanford/Georgia both take game 1

The Women’s College World Series Super Regionals started Thursday producing two action packed games as Ohio State took on Georgia and Stanford hosted Arizona. There is actually some parody this year. It’s nice to see teams outside of the Pac-10 advancing.

Here is a breakdown of Thursday’s games:

Georgia rallies from behind to defeat Ohio State 6-4 in game 1 despite some iffy coaching.

The Good:
-Michele Smith’s explanation of the illegal pitch was perfect. Every time I watch a game she analyzes, I feel I learn a little bit more about the game of softball.
- Courtney Pruner’s three-run homerun over the trees lining the outfield fence.
-The Bulldogs five runs and five hits in the fifth inning. Not a bad rally after being down 4-0 and looking all out of sorts.
-Bulldogs third baseman Alisa Goler’s two homeruns.
- The hybrid football/ice hockey/lacrosse helmets that the players are sporting. Gotta protect the face. (Read more...)
