Hammon to miss two games

Silver Stars guard Becky Hammon will be missing two games (Friday at New York and Sunday at Connecticut) to play for Russia in the European Championship. Head coach Dan Hughes said his team will just have to work through her absence. Russia is slated to play France on Tuesday and has already made the quarterfinals which begin on Thursday. Players have missed games in the past due to overseas commitments even though it’s usually under less bizarre circumstances. I’m more bothered by the fact that Hammon will be missing her return to New York than anything else. I’m still waiting to see what New York got out of that trade. Until the WNBA can compete with the salaries that players make abroad, then these overseas engagements will be inevitable.
